Yasir Al-Rumayyan celebrated Newcastle United's four-year anniversary early with a £111m investment to the men and women's teams last week - but opted against any type of grand statements.

Four years on since inheriting a team rooted to the bottom of the table with an unpopular manager in Steve Bruce, Newcastle have a trophy on the table, have played in Europe in two seasons, have struck a superb partnership with Adidas, built a fan zone and have the most exciting English manager in the Premier League in charge in Eddie Howe.

The board watched on with some satisfaction after the Magpies beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in a week which also resulted in a £1.8m cash injection thanks to the 4-0 Champions League win over Union SG.

The Newcastle chairman and PIF, who have pumped over £460m into the club, injected that £111m last week for running costs and potential transfers in January. There was no big statement or interview on the takeover anniversary day because the owners did not feel like one was needed.
