Lamare Bogarde has come of age at Aston Villa.

His latest performance, in today’s 2-1 win over Burnley, may well have been his most complete showing yet.

Bogarde operated seamlessly across different roles, including as a centre-back in a back three and as a midfielder in the double pivot alongside Boubacar Kamara. At just 21 years old, he hardly put a foot wrong. It’s easy to forget that he has been competing for a place in Villa’s first team against fully-fledged internationals, whether in defence or midfield.

The arrivals of Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans have increased the expectation for him to step up and show more maturity — and Bogarde has clearly taken that opportunity. Today’s start against Burnley was his fourth of the campaign, and he has featured in all but two of Villa’s first nine matches this season.
