Former Liverpool defender Conor Coady says he is 'bewildered' at Manchester United's decision not to sign Emi Martinez.

The Wrexham centre back, who made his name as part of the Wolves team which won promotion to and stayed in the Premier League, was discussing Senne Lammens' debut with United.

The Belgian, who rejected a move to Aston Villa in the summer, kept a clean sheet and made a positive impression in the 2-0 win over Sunderland.

However, Coady says United should have gone for an established name like Gianluigi Donnarumma or his former team-mate Martinez.

"I don't think Man United have helped their goalkeepers over the years," the 32-year-old told the Monday Night Club.

"I am bewildered why they haven't gone and signed a big goalkeeper. Emi Martinez, he would have been perfect wouldn't he?

"Let's be honest, a big character who you expect, he was on loan at Wolves with us years ago, wouldn't really react, he makes a mistake, gets on with it, goes again.
