Former Aston Villa director Monchi has hinted he wasn’t happy at the club, hence his exit last month.

AS cover comments from the director of football today after he appeared on Onda Cero’s Radioeste Noche programme.

Monchi departed his role as Aston Villa director of football on September 23rd. Roberto Olabe quickly replaced him in the position.

The move came after a difficult summer for the Villans. During this time, the club tasked Monchi with strengthening the squad while working around FFP and PSR rules. Some would argue it was a task he was not successful in.

He also found his loyalties divided after stepping in to save his hometown club San Fernando. He is part of a new ownership structure at the club, which will start again in the ninth division of Spanish football.

Monchi was at the forefront of the efforts, leading the charge and negotiating on their behalf. Ultimately, he succeed in that task. The initial plan had been for him to split his efforts between them and Aston Villa.

Instead, he ended up stepping down from the latter. This decision was to focus solely, for the time being at least, on reviving San Fernando. Now...
