In about two months’ time, it will be a full year of David de Gea being out of the game in any capacity.
His contract with Manchester United ended in the summer of 2023 and perhaps to the shock of many, the Spaniard still remains without a club.
However, that situation could be about to change in the upcoming summer if the stars align in multiple directions.
Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo report that Real Betis, long-term admirers of De Gea, will go in for him again in the summer.
Betis have long been credited with an interest in him but the outlet reports that the deal could never go through because of De Gea’s high opinion of himself.
His “astronomical” salary demands put off potential suitors, one of whom was Real Betis.
Now, with Betis firmly in the mix of qualifying for Europe and their goalkeeping situation set to enter a flux, they want to rekindle their interest.
Their incumbent, Claudio Bravo, is 41 and is set to return to Chile at the end of his contract so they need a new goalkeeper.
De Gea, on the other hand, has been dealt a harsh reminder of his stock in the world of football, with not even Saudi Arabia’s riches coming for him.
As such, permanently returning to his homeland of Spain might be the ideal option for him since he will never be left wanting for money after his United contract.
Therefore, with the likes of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid already having a settled goalkeeping lineup, Betis might present the best chance for him to compete at the highest level possible for him at this point.
Some fall from grace for a player who left United as the Premier League Golden Glove winner of 2022/23.
