Olivia Smith has won September’s Barclays Women’s Super League Goal of the Month award for her blockbuster against London City Lionesses.

Our summer signing became our first goalscorer of the season, and did so in style with an effort that will surely be in the reckoning for the seasonal award next May.

The former Liverpool forward made an instant impression at Emirates Stadium when she picked the ball up 35 yards from goal, beat a defender and unleashed a right-footed effort from 25 yards past a helpless Elene Lete in the visiting goal on the opening day.

The Canadian's effort set us on our way to three points, with goals from Chloe Kelly, Stina Blackstenius and Frida Maanum making sure of the win.

Voted for by supporters, Smith’s strike went up against goals from Ornella Vignola (Everton), Ebony Salmon (Aston Villa), Cathinka Tandberg (Tottenham Hotspur), Jayde Riviere (Manchester United), Hinata Miyazawa (Manchester United), Aggie Beever-Jones (Chelsea) and Olivia Holdt (Tottenham Hotspur), as well as Gunners loanee Rosa Kafaji, who scored a great strike for Brighton & Hove Albion against West Ham United.
