Steven Gerrard WILL be heading back to Rangers, if Rio Ferdinand is to be believed. The former Liverpool midfielder has been linked with an emotional return to Ibrox as a replacement for Russell Martin.

Martin was dismissed earlier this week following a dismal start to the campaign. Gerrard enjoyed considerable success during his initial tenure with the Glasgow outfit after breaking their decade-long drought for a Scottish top-flight crown.

Gerrard left for Aston Villa in 2021 before subsequently switching to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq. He has remained unemployed since departing the Middle Eastern club earlier this year, but Ferdinand reckons a switch back to Rangers is now firmly on the horizon.
