Liverpool tend to be shrewd operators in the transfer market but they do occasionally get things wrong.

It really was a summer of change for the Reds as the first-team squad saw a big overhaul, with big money spent, but also big money made.

They did this to try and give themselves the best shot at defending their Premier League title, but so far, it has not gone to plan.
