Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been advised that he should have moved to bring in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta during the summer transfer window to bolster their attacking options.

The forward line was identified as a key area requiring improvement by Amorim at the beginning of the previous window. Wolverhampton Wanderers' Matheus Cunha, Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko were all brought in to tackle this problem, whilst Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho were all shipped out either temporarily or permanently.

Options in the centre-forward role are now rather restricted, though. Whilst both Cunha and Mbeumo are capable of playing there, they're frequently required as No.10s, and Joshua Zirkzee has been largely sidelined this campaign despite Amorim's unwillingness to offload him in the summer.

On his podcast, No Tippy Tappy Football, former Premier League boss Sam Allardyce argued that United had missed an opportunity by not bringing 6ft 3' striker Mateta to the club.
