Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton was of interest to Real Madrid during the summer window.

The La Liga club had planned to sell Dani Ceballos and replace him with Wharton. They failed to offload the Spaniard and a move for the Crystal Palace never materialised.

Wednesday’s edition of AS reports Wharton continues to be a target for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos didn’t sign a midfielder last summer even though Martín Zubimendi was Xabi Alonso’s favourite target. They weren’t convinced about investing €60m on the midfielder, who left Real Sociedad for Arsenal.

The Spanish giants have to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the pitch soon. AS say the ‘name chosen’ is that of the Crystal Palace star.

Wharton’s contract expires in 2029 and Transfermarkt currently values the 21-year-old at €45m. The report states the 21-year-old ‘won’t leave for less than €80m’.

It’s claimed the ‘price isn’t an issue’ for Real Madrid as Wharton ‘clearly fits’ into their transfer policy.

The England international is also attracting interest from the Premier League. The FA Cup winners are aware of this, and AS report their plan is to offer him an improved contract.
