Ian Murray confident he can guide Raith Rovers into cinch Premiership

Ian Murray is confident his Raith Rovers side are equipped to overturn a 2-1 play-off final first-leg defeat against Ross County as they bid to earn a long-awaited promotion to the cinch Premiership.

The Kirkcaldy side face a tall order to get back to the top flight for the first time in 27 years after losing narrowly to the Staggies at rain-soaked Stark’s Park on Thursday.

However, Murray is adamant his team – who finished second in the Championship – remain full of belief ahead of the second leg in Dingwall on Sunday.

“We have to believe because there’s no point in going up there otherwise,” said the Rovers boss.

“It’s a one-goal tie. We know we have to win by more than one in 90 minutes to progress but as long as we win the game we will take it to extra-time and then you never know what can happen.

“But it’s going to be hard, we’re not going to be silly about it and think we’re going to blow Ross County away. We’re capable of it but we will have to play better than we did on Thursday.”

Raith have been renowned for their attacking approach over the past season and Murray believes their ability to score goals can serve them well as they head into Sunday’s must-win encounter in the Highlands.

“We’ve got nothing to lose now,” he said. “This long, hard season has come down to one game.

“We’ll give it a right good go. There’s no point in whimpering out at this stage.

“We’ll go out there and try and score goals because that’s what’s going to win us the tie.”

Raith have former County defender Keith Watson back in contention after injury but on-loan Staggies midfielder Kyle Turner remains ineligible to face his parent club.
