Montreal public transit fares will go up on July 1

The overall hike is of three per cent, but transit users will be affected differently depending on where and how they travel.

The Montreal region’s transit authority is hiking fares globally by three per cent starting July 1, but users will be affected differently, based on where they travel.

In a statement the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain said Tuesday that fares will rise by an average of three per cent, which falls within the observed inflation rate of 4.1 per cent in the Montreal region.

As a result of the new fare structure, a one-way fare in Zone A and B will increase by 25 cents to $4.75 and to $3.25 for reduced fares — a rate that had been frozen since Oct. 2022.

The fare for a one-way ticket in Zone A (which represents the Island of Montreal) is unchanged at $3.75 and $2.75 for reduced fare. One-way fares for Zone B,C,D also remain frozen at $3.75.

Montreal passes will rise in Zone A will rise to $100 from the current $97, and weekly passes are up one dollar to $31.

Monthly passes in Zone AB will reach $160 (from $155) and climb to $196 (from $190) for Zone ABC and to $271 for the ABCD zone.

The base RTL/REM monthly pass will also increase to $136 from $119.
