Nottingham Forest plan Huddersfield swoop as £10m link emerges

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Lewis O’Brien, according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon , and are preparing a double-swoop alongside Harry Toffolo. Steve Cooper’s side are keen to strengthen their squad following promotion to the Premier League and could raid the very team they beat in the playoff final at Wembley in May.

They have recently been linked with a move for Terrier’s full-back Toffolo.

And now Forest are planning a second raid at the John Smith’s Stadium, with an offer for midfielder O’Brien being prepared. The 23-year-old has long been linked with a move away from the club and was heavily linked with Leeds United throughout the year, but their interest has seemingly cooled and those at the City Ground look set to pounce with a £10million bid, according to Nixon. Previous reports have claimed O'Brien's release clause is £12m.

Nixon claims Town ‘will sell’ their midfielder after he made clear his desire to play in the Premier League. O’Brien featured 34 times during the regular Championship season last year, adding a further three games in the playoffs as a vital cog in Carlos Corberan’s Terriers.

Yorkshire rivals Leeds were looking to sign O’Brien last summer but the two could not meet in terms of a fee, with the Whites refusing to budge from a reported £8million and Town digging their heels in.

The midfielder’s contract at the John Smith’s Stadium runs until 2025, meaning they have no obligation to accept a cut-price deal.
