Fabrizio Romano says he can 'guarantee' that £846m player will not join Liverpool

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign a number of players since the turn of 2024.

The Reds are all set to bid farewell to Jurgen Klopp in a couple of weeks. The German will be stepping down as the manager after nearly eight years at the club.

Arne Slot is likely to be the man who will replace Klopp, and he will surely want to bring in a few new players once the summer transfer window opens.

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on a player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool are expected to be very active in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Any new manager would want to bring in his new players, and the Reds have been linked with over a dozen names since the start of 2024.

One name has emerged as a target for Liverpool in recent days – Barcelona star Pedri.

The talented Spain international’s future has been a hot topic of conversation recently. He will enter the final two years of his contract this summer, and Barcelona have a decision to make.

Rumours have suggested that Liverpool are interested in the 21-year-old midfielder, but Fabrizio Romano has now rubbished those claims.

The journalist has claimed that he can ‘guarantee’ that there is nothing between Liverpool and Pedri right now.

Romano further claimed that talks will take place between the young midfielder and Barcelona over a new contract very soon.

He wrote in his Daily Briefing: “Despite what has been reported elsewhere, I can guarantee that there is nothing between Pedri and Liverpool, or between Liverpool and Barcelona for Pedri – the situation is completely quiet.

“Pedri is really happy and always super committed to Barcelona, and he’s a crucial part of the project at the Nou Camp.

“Of course, contract talks will have to take place in the next weeks and months – this will be one of the priorities for Barca after an agreement was reached for Pau Cubarsi (it’s just about the final details now); Pedri is another player who will speak to Barca about a new contract, talks will take place, but when PSG were interested in the past Pedri never wanted to entertain any talks because his full focus remains on Barcelona.

“So, a new contract will be a topic really soon between Pedri and Barca, and it’s also important to say that Liverpool have different priorities – a new centre-back, and a new player in the offensive positions, so these are the areas to watch, more than a big signing in midfield.”

As things stand, there is nothing between Liverpool and Pedri. The youngster is likely to continue at Barcelona with a new contract set to be offered soon.

However, if talks break down between the two parties, the Reds could come into the picture again.

If Barcelona can’t get Pedri to sign a new contract this summer, they could consider selling him because his stock is higher now than it will be next year, when he’ll have just a year left.

The Catalans will surely demand a huge fee if they have to sell him. His release clause is set at a staggering €1 billion, which is about £846 million, as per the Guardian.
