The reaction to the signings which the Edinburgh and Glasgow clubs made, both good and bad, during January was even more over-the-top than usual too.

The business they carried out will have a major bearing on their chances of finishing first in the William, Hill Premiership come May.

The winter transfer window is, as any manager will tell you, a difficult one. The players who are available are normally available for a reason. Clubs are, with league and cup competitions to be win, European qualification to be secured and relegation to be avoided, unwilling to part with important members of their first team unless they receive top dollar.   

So have Hearts, Celtic and Rangers managed to overcome the myriad obstacles they face in the first month of every year? Have they bolstered their squads with new recruits who will give them a vital cutting edge over their rivals in the remaining games of the 2025/26 campaign? Or have they failed to take full advantage of the window and jeopardised their prospects of being crowned champions?
