Toronto FC is considering a permanent move for Rangers midfielder José Cifuentes following a strong performance on loan.

The Ecuadorian is with the MLS team until June, and Toronto has the option to make the deal permanent.

Cifuentes is contracted with Rangers for one more year, but his future at the Ibrox club looks bleak after being sidelined by multiple managers.

He played in just 20 matches for the Glasgow side after being signed by Michael Beale for £1.2 million from Los Angeles FC.

Brief loan spells at Cruzeiro and Aris Thessaloniki preceded his move to Canada.

Jason Hernandez, Toronto's general manager, said they are yet to make a decision regarding Cifuentes’s future but will soon consider making the move permanent.

Mr Hernandez said: "We haven’t really explored any of those conversations in depth yet.

"Obviously, we know we have Cifu for another couple of months before we have to make a decision.
