The 37-year-old Rangers favourite returned to his first club, helping them secure promotion from the Scottish Championship and stormed into the top six in the Premiership this season.

Despite his success, most of his contributions were as a substitute, and he now feels he still has a lot to offer at this level.

Moving from a team fighting for a top six league position, to a relegation battle, he is relishing the opportunity to be on the pitch more often at Livingston, his hometown club.

Arfield said: "It happened quite quickly.

"I made the decision to leave Falkirk around about two and a half, three weeks ago, which was all really to do with game time.

"I was desperate to play.

"At my age, you're just desperate to play minutes.

"There's obviously no guarantee, but I felt as if I still have moments in my legs, so I felt it was best for me to move on.
