Rangers supporters and legends gathered to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Ibrox disaster on Friday, January 2. Mourners came together to pay their respects to the 66 fans who tragically died on this day in 1971.

Then-captain John Greig laid a wreath at the foot of his own statue alongside a note that read "Always remembered". Former player Derek Johnstone also attended the event, which was led by club chaplain and minister of Glasgow Cathedral, the Reverend Mark Johnstone, reports the Daily Record.

At the approximate time of the disaster, 4.45pm, a fan-led service was also scheduled to take place at the north-east corner of the stadium. The club also confirmed that a representative would be present at Markinch Memorial Garden today, paying respects to the five boys from the Fife village who lost their lives on the day.
