Tottenham Hotspur had been looking to bring in a central defender in the past summer transfer window. And this was despite the fact that they signed youngster Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale and Kevin Danso’s loan from RC Lens got automatically turned into a permanent deal.

While Takai is yet to feature this season due to an injury sustained in training back in July, Danso has acted as a back-up for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. In Romero’s injury absence in few games, Danso filled in and did a decent job. Yet, there is a lack of depth as far as the central defensive unit is concerned.

The concern among the Tottenham fans is the noticeable drop in quality when either of Romero and Van de Ven is absent, stressing a clear area that needs addressing in the January transfer window.
