Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly been in discussions about a potential return to his old club Ajax after the Amsterdam giants sacked former Liverpool assistant John Heitinga.

Ten Hag is currently without a club after being dismissed by Bayer Leverkusen earlier this season and has been linked with a move back to the Premier League. But it seems he's now received a more enticing offer to make a sensational return to his former club.

Heitinga was sacked by Ajax, who sit fourth in the Eredivisie and suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat at home to Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday night, meaning they have now lost all four of their European games.

A statement from Ajax read: "Ajax has suspended John Heitinga with immediate effect. The head coach’s contract was due to run until June 30, 2027, but will now be terminated.
