Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is hoping Liverpool can use tonight's Carabao Cup tie with Crystal Palace to kickstart their season after five defeats in a row for Arne Slot's side.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper is in line to make his Liverpool debut tonight after signing from Preston North End in the summer. Woodman was brought in as back-up to Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili. but with the Brazilian ruled out through injury and Mamardashvili set to be rested, he is ready for his big chance at Anfield.

Woodman has seen how former Reds keeper Caoimhin Kelleher used his opportunities in the Carabao Cup - the Irishman played at Wembley last March as Newcastle won 2-1 to claim the trophy - and is relishing the responsibility tonight.
