Dani Carvajal faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury, ruling him out of Real Madrid's clash against Liverpool in the Champions League. The 33-year-old defender will undergo arthroscopy surgery, meaning Trent Alexander-Arnold could start against his former club.

Carvajal experienced discomfort after Los Blancos' 2-1 win over Barcelona on Sunday, and there are fears he could be absent for the remainder of the year. The Spain international came off the bench during El Clásico, before undergoing medical examinations on Monday morning to assess the extent of the problem.

According to the Mirror, Madrid sources suggest the right-back faces a minimum six-week recovery period and could potentially be sidelined until January 2026. The La Liga heavyweights are due to face Liverpool on November 4.
