Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard has sent his best wishes to Ross Wilson after he was appointed as the Newcastle United sporting director. The Magpies completed their long-awaited move for a St. James' Park chief after triggering his release clause.

The move sees him make the switch across the Premier League from Nottingham Forest to the North East. Wilson will take up the position which has been vacant after Paul Mitchell left the club in June 2025 by mutual consent.

Wilson, formerly of Rangers and Southampton, will lead the recruitment and sporting strategy following two-and-a-half years with Forest.
