Leeds United are only seven games into the Premier League season and one must always be careful about making giant forecasts about the months ahead.

Injuries, form and other factors can all determine a player’s future and role in plans. Though, there are always some assumptions that are feasible to make.

Ethan Ampadu remaining as captain, Joe Rodon being the primary centre-back pick and limited game time for breakthrough academy stars are examples.

There is one, older, Thorp Arch graduate who will have been expecting restricted pitch time anyway. Sam Byram had made clear his wish to extend his stay at boyhood club Leeds as far back as January.

The full-back, now 32, was out of contract in June and a few days into July he indeed signed a one-year extension. Daniel Farke often underlined Byram’s experience and availability last season, as well as his versatility at left-back.

Prior to March’s defeat at Portsmouth, the Byram had not been involved in a league defeat since coming on as a substitute against Burnley the prior September.
