Steven Gerrard returning to Rangers will ring alarm bells at Celtic.

The English manager seems the favourite candidate to fill the vacancy in the Gers’ dugout, with Russell Martin being sacked after the draw against Falkirk.

Gerrard’s appointment at Ibrox feels all but done, with only the final details needing to be ironed out at the Light Blues.

With the Liverpool icon about to enter the Glaswegian outfit’s cauldron in G51, the hierarchy at Parkhead may be keeping a close eye on the situation.

As things stand, before Gerrard steps foot at the Gers, they are 11 points behind table-toppers Hearts and nine points behind Celtic.

The Light Blues had one of their worst starts to the season under Martin, winning just one of the seven William Hill Premiership matches in charge during his time at Ibrox.

While the Glaswegian outfit are at a great disadvantage right now, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Liverpool icon get an instant reaction from his players and get back in the race for the title.
