Rangers look to be closing in on Steven Gerrard as their new manager.

Gerrard is believed to have held talks with the Rangers hierarchy over a return to Ibrox, after Russell Martin was sacked last week.

Jermain Defoe dropped a huge hint on Gerrard’s Rangers comeback, and it seems increasingly likely to he will return to the dugout.

The 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh need to restore the faith among Gers supporters, and appointing the 45-year-old would certainly do that.

Danny Murphy has revealed his surprise at a Rangers comeback for Gerrard, his former teammate at Liverpool.

However, Ross McCormack believes that the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership-winning boss is the only man for the role.

One Light Blues fan took exception to the ex-Gers striker’s opinion on the matter, calling into Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 9 October, saying: “Ross McCormack made a crazy statement half an hour ago, saying Steven Gerrard, but he is going to say, he supports Celtic.”

McCormack fired back, saying: “What’s wrong with it? I can give my opinion.”
