Kyle Lafferty believes Russell Martin's summer signings let him down at Rangers.

The former Rangers manager was sacked on Sunday evening after being escorted from Falkirk Stadium by police, ending his tenure as the shortest-serving manager in the club's history.

Martin's stint was marred by poor performance, with only one win from seven Premiership matches.

Lafferty, who played alongside Martin at Norwich, was optimistic about his appointment but now feels he was let down by his signings.

The 39-year-old signed several players in his only transfer window, but Lafferty thinks they underestimated the challenge at Rangers.

He told the Daily Record: "When he got the Rangers job, I was delighted for Russell.

"It got me excited.

"But I think for some of the players he’s signed, they maybe underestimated how big Rangers is and how tough Scottish football is.

"Some of them were brilliant at previous clubs.

"But everyone knows at the Old Firm, before you’ve kicked a ball expectations are massive.

"It’s not just about ability at Rangers.
