Liverpool have been quick to plunder the Bundesliga for talent during the past decade of the transfer market.

The Reds have spent big in Germany’s top division, twice breaking their transfer record on players plying their trade in Germany.

While Naby Keita and – so far – Florian Wirtz have flattered to deceive a little, though, others such as Roberto Firmino, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have been big successes.

The German top division remains a sometimes difficult barometer to gauge how good a player is, but it has also provided Liverpool with a consistent pool of quality additions.

As a result, it is safe to assume that the Reds are continuously monitoring the Bundesliga for signs of the next big player breaking through.

This season, that looks like it could be Augsburg attacking midfielder Mert Komur. And as his star continues to rise, the 20-year-old has given a nod to struggling Liverpool talisman Wirtz.

The biggest of these was arguably that the Reds had snatched the coming poster-boy of German football away from their own league.
