Florian Wirtz has been the subject of numerous snippy comments coming from Bayern Munich’s direction since snubbing their advances in favour of joining Liverpool this summer. But while the ‘war of words’ has been fairly one-sided to date, the managing director of the German national team has hit back at the Bavarians in defence of the playmaker.

The 22-year-old joined the Reds in an £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, rejecting interest from the likes of Bayern and Man City in the process.
