Rangers are preparing to hold talks with Steven Gerrard about a possible return to the Ibrox, a report has claimed.

Gerrard, 45, has been out of management since leaving Saudi Arabia giants Al-Ettifaq by mutual consent last January — but a return to the dugout could finally be on the cards with the team that kickstarted his managerial career.

The Liverpool legend steered Rangers to a sensational unbeaten season in 2020-21, as the club chalked up 102 points and won both Old Firm derbies over rivals Celtic.

His stint at the Ibrox, which spanned three years between 2018 and 2021, led to Gerrard landing the managerial role at Aston Villa on a three-and-half year contract following the dismissal of Dean Smith.

Gerrard has since struggled to replicate the impressive record he displayed at Rangers during his spells with Villa and Al-Ettifaq, whom he joined in January 2024 after being sacked by the Premier League outfit after less than a year in charge.
