Tottenham Hotspur were among four clubs that approached one of Barcelona’s defensive stars last summer, but the player had other ideas as several Premier League sides joined the chase.

In the recently concluded summer window, Tottenham Hotspur were keen to add a new centre-back to their ranks to bolster Thomas Frank’s options at the back.

Piero Hincapie was linked with a move to Tottenham before sealing a transfer to Arsenal, but Spurs were quick to reject such reports.

Ronald Araujo was also reported to be a target for Tottenham, as was Marc Guehi, but none of these signings were completed, with Spurs failing to bring in any senior centre-back.

Still, Spurs have started the season strongly, and their back line has been a major factor behind that success, having kept three clean sheets in the league and conceded very few goals.

A fresh report from Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, has now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were among a few clubs to have looked at Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo last summer.

Chelsea and Liverpool are also understood attempted to sign the centre-back, but their efforts fell through, just like Spurs, with the defender said to have been available...
