Florian Wirtz hasn’t been under a huge amount of pressure since his transfer to Liverpool, although it feels the Galatasaray match may change that. Jamie Carragher getting involved and suggesting the 22-year-old is dropped is a story which spread throughout the world media.

In Germany this week it was explained to a local audience that the English media have been relatively soft on Wirtz so far. He hasn’t yet lived up to expectations following his big move from Bayer Leverkusen, but there’s plenty of time.

Indeed, it’s October 1st and there’s every chance Wirtz could go on to be a star this season. Arne Slot and Liverpool will be working towards that but there’s wider support.

Those in charge of the German national team don’t want to see Wirtz struggling. There’s a World Cup on the way and they need him happy and firing.
