Liverpool could be about to be handed a boost in their hopes of competing at the next FIFA Club World Cup. The Reds did not feature in the competition earlier this year despite being the reigning Premier League champions and winning the Champions League back in 2019.

The Premier League had two representatives in the competition, with Chelsea and Manchester City both in taking part. The duo earned the right to compete in the inaugural format of the Club World Cup after winning the Champions League within the last four years.

A report in The Times has claimed that there could be a change to the format for the Club World Cup. The report states that participation from the Premier League could increase to three clubs from two for the next instalment of the competition.
