Leicester City have posted another heavy loss in their accounts for last season, and it is difficult to find any positives in losing £71m in a season that was also a huge failure on the pitch.

But if there is one bright spot, it’s that City’s wage-to-turnover dropped to 82 per cent, the lowest it has sat in seven years.

City’s wage bill rose considerably from the Championship-winning season, jumping from £107m to £153m. But this was still well down on the £206m they spent on wages during their previous Premier League relegation campaign.

That first fall out of the top flight was the much greater underperformance, with City having the eighth biggest wage bill in the division that year.
