As we enter every football fan’s favourite part of the season, the March international break, the focus of the Queens Park Rangers hierarchy may be shifting towards planning for next season.

The midfield has been a relative strong point for QPR this season, with Nicolas Madsen a rejuvenated success, and Harvey Vale’s consistency in the number ten position in recent weeks.

Following on from the defensive review, attention now turns to the midfield, assessing who Rangers should retain and who may be moved on ahead of what could be a pivotal window.

Jonathan Varane has arguably been one of the more disappointing players this season, particularly given the level he showed during his debut campaign. Injuries have disrupted his rhythm, while reported interest from Saint-Étienne may also have played a role in his inconsistency.

At his best, however, his quality is clear. His ball-winning ability remains elite at this level, even if his passing has dipped in recent months. His strongest spell came during Rangers’ pre-Christmas run, where his partnership with Madsen provided balance and control.
