Manchester United legends have added a former club captain to their squad.

A group of former Red Devils will get together to play a match to raise money for the Manchester United Foundation.

Some glamour ties over the years have seen United come up against the likes of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

A particularly happy memory was the 2019 match, a 20-year anniversary of the 1999 Champions League final between United and Bayern. Unlike the real match, it was not so close as United ran out 5-0 winners.

The club’s official website has announced that, “Antonio Valencia is set to be on Manchester United Legends duty, when we take on Southampton next month.”

Valencia joined Manchester United from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2009. The Ecuadorian played 339 times for the Red Devils, scoring 25 goals in total.

He joined the club as a right winger but gradually transformed into a right-back and spent a significant amount of his United career in a more defensive role.

Valencia was named club captain in 2018 by Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho after the retirement of Michael Carrick.
