Manchester United’s interest has given Borussia Dortmund a new headache heading into the summer transfer window.

Earlier this year, it was widely reported in Germany that Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract renewal at Dortmund was “nearly finalized”.

However, Schlotterbeck has clarified that the negotiations with the Bundesliga outfit are far from advanced following the departure of sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Dortmund think that this is just a pretext. The real reason behind the German defender’s recent comments could be “a new interest” from United and Liverpool.

Sky Sports Germany‘s Florian Plettenberg has now provided more insight into how Dortmund plan to tackle the major U-turn from their defensive leader, Nico Schlotterbeck.

It is claimed that further meetings are planned between the central defender’s camp and the new Dortmund sporting director, Oli Book, during which, among other things, Schlotterbeck’s release clause will be discussed.

The 26-year-old is set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Westfalenstadion in the summer, leaving the club sweating over his future.
