Jermaine Beckford has suggested that the decision not to send off Sunderland goalscorer Habib Diarra for his penalty celebrations against Leeds United could be classed as "clear" error.

The midfielder, who was the subject of a summer bid from Leeds, had already been booked earlier in the game before he ran towards the ecstatic away end having seen his spot kick squeeze past Karl Darlow.

Diarra mounted the hoardings as a handful of fans made their way forward, one of whom was seen grabbing the Senegal international on the arm and back. Players who jump into the crowd are handed a yellow card, albeit in this case this was not clear cut.

Referee Stuart Attwell ultimately did not produce a second yellow card. Beckford believes this could be categorised as a “clear and obvious error” and suggested that the optics did not look fair.
