Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he had a conversation with Diogo Dalot, in which the player made a surprise admission about now-sacked boss Ruben Amorim.

Amorim was dismissed by United in December last year after an extremely turbulent 14 months as head coach.

Appointed in November 2024 to replace Erik ten Hag, Amorim arrived at the club to much fanfare and expectation, but he struggled to live up to the hype.

United struggled for consistent performances and results as the Portuguese coach went about implementing his controversial 3-4-3 system. Despite overwhelming evidence and calls for him to adapt his approach based on the players at his disposal, he made it clear that he would not compromise on his principles.

Amorim led United to a lowly 15th-placed finish last term, while also losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. This ensured that United would go an entire campaign without European football.

Despite the alarming state of affairs, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the football leadership heavily backed Amorim in the summer transfer window, securing him the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens.
