Manchester United Women scored a late winner to overcome a resilient London City Lionesses on Sunday.

First half

After an impressive 3-0 away victory over Atletico Madrid midweek, Marc Skinner spoke about the importance of staying focused for this game.

United did not heed the message, as they found themselves behind after just five minutes. Former player Nikita Parris headed in Freya Godfrey’s cross to give the away side the lead.

The Red Devils failed to respond, and the London City Lionesses controlled most of the first half. A rare lapse in concentration from Phallon Tullis-Joyce led to the ball arriving at Parris on the edge of the box, but she could not convert.

Skinner’s side are made of sturdy stuff, however, and despite not playing well, they found their way back into the game.

Just before half-time, Jess Park beat a couple of defenders, cut in, and unleashed an unstoppable effort into the net.

Second half

United came out in the second half looking to take the lead, but could have easily conceded right at the start of the second period.
