Michael Carrick has come in and steadied the Manchester United ship after a turbulent 18-month spell under Ruben Amorim.

Four wins, including a famous Manchester derby triumph and victory over league leaders Arsenal, and a late draw against West Ham United, have delighted the fanbase.

However, the buoyant atmosphere around the club has been shattered due to the noise generated by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recent interview with Sky.

The United co-owner’s controversial remark on immigration has forced the club to issue a statement, while multiple fan groups have come out and attacking the INEOS chairman over his racist views.

“The UK has been colonised by immigrants, really, hasn’t it?,” the British billionaire was quoted as saying. “I mean, the population of the UK was 58 million in 2020, now it’s 70 million. That’s 12 million people.”

The political leadership in the UK has condemned Sir Jim for his choice of words, with the 73-year-old issuing a statement of his own.
