Tottenham Hotspur rank surprisingly high in the Premier League net spend table for the January transfer window.

There is no getting away from the fact that Tottenham’s January window was an extremely disappointing one.

Despite Spurs being in the middle of an injury crisis, Conor Gallagher and Souza were the only two senior players to arrive through the door.

What was alarming was that Tottenham failed to strengthen their attack despite their struggles in the final third so far this season, with many Spurs fans livid with the club’s lack of ambition.

Brennan Johnson was sold to Crystal Palace £35m, which means that Tottenham had a net spend of just £12m in January despite landing Gallagher and Souza, according to Sky Sports.

However, interestingly, the £12m net spend is still the fifth highest of any English top-flight club across the January window.

Only Crystal Palace (£63m), Manchester City (£56.5m), Fulham (£25m) and Sunderland (£23.9m) had a higher net spend than the Lilywhites in January.

This lack of spending across the Premier League demonstrates how difficult it is for clubs to find the right players mid-season.
