Plant, 21, has made almost half a century of appearances for Vale, having also spent time on loan at Nantwich Town and Salisbury before making his Football League debut, as well as featuring for Yeovil Town in the National League.

The winger re-joins manager Andy Crosby after they worked together at Vale.

Crosby said: “We’re delighted to secure the permanent signing of a player I’ve wanted to bring to the football club since the summer window. James brings with him a large number of appearances in League One, League Two and the National League for a 21-years-old. 

“I gave him his first-team debut against Ipswich Town away in League One back in April 2023 in a position he had never played in before. He was excellent on the night, and he became a vital part of my squad. He is fit, athletic and a fantastic young professional, who I believe has lot of development in him.
