“We don’t think it’s a serious injury,” said Howe, after Gordon was forced off in the first half of Newcastle’s midweek Champions League win over Athletic Bilbao. “But we’re going to get him scanned and we’re awaiting the results. I think there’s every chance he might miss out on Sunday, but we’ll give him every opportunity to be fit.

“With England, I’m relaxed about that. It’ll all be done with England’s blessing in terms of whether he’s fit or not. We’ll together with them to try to find the right solution for Anthony.”
