Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall has been called up to the England under-21 squad by Lee Carsley, despite Eddie Howe warning that they are being 'careful' with how they manage his comeback from injury.

Hall, as well as United midfielder Lewis Miley, has been called up for the Young Lions' ahead of their European Championship qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Slovakia.

The 21-year-old made his comeback from a hamstring injury in Wednesday's 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, replacing Dan Burn from the bench in the 66th minute.

The former Chelsea defender looked tidy on the ball on his return but when asked whether he would be ready to start in Sunday's trip to Brentford, Howe appeared to err on the side of caution.
