Diego León is set for an increasing role at Manchester United in the short and medium term. That’s according to South American journalist Christian Martin.

He’s been speaking to Versus, where the subject of León was brought up ahead of the international break.

León was the first official signing of the Ruben Amorim era at Manchester United last year. A deal was done for him in the January transfer window before he moved in the summer.

He is very much one for the future, with Manchester United making that clear from day one. That has been demonstrated this season, as he’s featured mostly in the youth set up. He was, though, handed his first team chance in two games in the EFL Trophy.

León has also been busy featuring for Paraguay’s U-20s, making his debut in January and adding a further eight appearances to his tally. And he played nine minutes for the senior team in a 2-0 defeat to South Korea last month.

All indications are that both Manchester United and Paraguay are taking their time, but Martin insists he’s in the short-term plans for his club. That is despite them not...
