Jay Robinson opened the scoring in the 55th minute before the tricky Brazilian hit a stunner to help secure a first Championship win since September.

QPR's Romain Burrell scored his fourth goal in the last five games to pull the hosts back into contention just five minutes later, though he looked offside.

And they piled pressure onto the Saints goal, but interim boss Tonda Eckert recorded victory in his first game in charge to climb to 19th in the table.

Eckert shook things up with his first Saints lineup, with four changes in total, including restoring goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu in place of Alex McCarthy.

Saints played the same 3-4-2 formation, but Jack Stephens was also put straight back into the team, along with Tom Fellows and 18 year old Robinson.

QPR were beaten 4-1 by Ipswich Town here at Loftus Road on Saturday and responded with five changes, including benching top scorer Richard Kone.

It was the first outing for Saints since the sacking of Will Still, who lost his final three league matches in a row and was without a win in five.
