Eckert, who has taken over from Will Still while Southampton search for a new permanent manager, could satisfy fans by ditching the divisive five-at-the-back system.

He has primarily used the same shape with the under-21s, although academy sides tend to mirror what the first-team boss is doing. Eckert may feel a four-back is better.

Goalkeeper

With each managerial change at Saints, question marks return around the goalkeeper position, with both Gavin Bazunu and Alex McCarthy at a similar level.

Bazunu started the season between the sticks before losing his spot to McCarthy after a few games. The Irishman may return, though, after his heroics under Eckert for the under-21s.

Defenders

We are also unsure whether Eckert will stick with the five-back used by Still or switch to a four-back system. Either way, Mads Roerslev and Ryan Manning are the only available full-backs.
