Yesterday, the Celtic Trust released another statement on their website, highlighting what they call problems with the voting process for the AGM. It relates to something called Computershare, and concerns votes cast online—presumably prior to the AGM.

In effect, it’s just a message to fans updating them on a technical issue. But when I saw the headline, I thought they were going to raise a much larger problem: that the entire voting system is a farce.

The AGM itself is a farce. It achieves nothing of substance. It’s a paper-shuffling exercise—Stock Market Regulations 101. Beyond that, it has no real force or effect. But it has been used by the board, time and time again, as a clever deflection tactic.

This board loves to tell supporters that its legitimacy comes from the AGM. But that’s nonsense. The AGM has no legitimacy. It’s a room full of well-fed, well-insulated board members voting for each other. That’s all it is.

Not one of these guys has had to buy a ticket for Celtic Park in decades. Some haven’t since the 90s. But they genuinely believe they are the club. They think they embody it. They act like its living representatives. And...
