Carlo Ancelotti announced Brazil’s latest squad on Monday, and while Nottingham Forest striker Igor Jesus did not make the cut this time, the manager still made a point of mentioning him during his press conference.

Explaining his attacking options to Globo Esporte, Ancelotti said Brazil are searching for a traditional centre-forward. Someone who can play as a reference inside the box. He referenced Spurs’ Richarlison as his current pick, but added a brief but telling nod to Igor Jesus.

“Igor Jesus too. We are happy that he’s doing well at Nottingham Forest,” Ancelotti said, in reference to the 24-year-old.

The comment may be short, but it shows that the Nottingham Forest striker remains firmly on the radar. Igor Jesus was part of Brazil’s squad in October and made his first appearance under Ancelotti during that international window. 

His performances in England have also been well received, with his physical presence and work rate fitting the profile the coach described.

Although left out for the November friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia, the forward’s mention suggests he has not fallen out of favour. If he continues to perform in the Premier League, another call-up...
